Introduction to FSSAI

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) was established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, with two major objectives:

Importers

  • All importers of food items, including additives and ingredients.

Other Businesses

  • Storage Units (Capacity > 50,000 MT for dry storage, > 1,000 MT for cold storage).
  • Wholesalers, Retailers, Distributors, Caterers, Transporters, Marketers (Turnover > 20-30 crores).
  • Hotels (5-star and above), Restaurants (Turnover > 20 crores).
  • Food Businesses operating in Central Govt. premises, airports, and seaports.

Eligibility for FSSAI State License

Manufacturers

  • Dairy units processing 501-50,000 LPD of milk or > 2.5 MT to 2500 MT of milk solids annually.
  • Meat processing units handling up to 500 kg meat/day or 150 MT/year.
  • All food processing units handling 100 kg to 2 MT/day.

Other Businesses

  • Storage Units (Capacity up to 50,000 MT for dry storage, 10,000 MT for cold storage).
  • Wholesalers, Retailers, Distributors, Caterers, Transporters, Marketers (Turnover < 30 crores).
  • Hotels (3-star and above), Restaurants (Turnover ≤ 20 crores).
  • Food Businesses operating under Central Govt. agencies except those in major airports/seaports.

Documents Required for FSSAI Registration in Jaipur

FSSAI Registration Process

Step 1: Filling the Application Form

  • Submit Form A to the Food Safety Department.

Step 2: Application Acceptance or Rejection

  • The department accepts/rejects the application within 7 days.

Step 3: Issuance of Registration Certificate

  • Upon approval, the 14-digit FSSAI Registration Number is issued.

Step 4: Display of Registration Certificate

  • The Certificate must be displayed at the place of business.

  • FSSAI Registration is governed by Section 31(1) and Section 31(2) of the FSS Act, 2006.
  • Food businesses must comply with Food Safety and Standards (Licensing & Registration) Regulations, 2011.
